Town Council Endorsement
Kyle Merck has launched a write-in campaign for a council seat, and hope you'll join me in support of his effort
Today, I’m changing things up a bit. I hope that’s OK with you.
The original plan was to share details of a big event we’re organizing: a door-to-door canvassing campaign to dramatically expand our network and meet as many people as possible. That is priority #1, and I’ll have more to share about that effort later this week. Please stay tuned!
Instead, I want to tell you about Kyle Merck. In a short amount of time, he and I have developed a fast friendship. While our houses are almost next door to each other, we’d never met until a couple of weeks ago. Over a basket of tortilla chips and Pancho’s homemade salsa (so, so good), we discussed city operations, what we think works and what doesn’t, and of course we talked a lot about the upcoming election. Apart from just getting to know a neighbor, both of us had another reason to meet. I wanted to take his measure, and he wanted to take mine.
I liked what I heard. Kyle did, too. That’s why we’re both committed to helping the other be successful on November 2. He’s supporting my campaign for mayor, and I’m supporting his write-in campaign for town council. I’m deeply appreciative of Kyle and his work on my behalf. I am happy to do the same for him.
So, without further ado, I’ll let Kyle speak for himself.
Dear Town of Central Residents,
My name is Kenneth (Kyle) Merck, and I was born and raised in the Town of Central. My wife (Karrie Merck) and I, along with our three daughters, have lived on Jessamine Drive in Central for the last 11 years. Our home was my great uncle’s home, and we are members of Alive Wesleyan Church. I currently work as a Nurse Practitioner in Easley at the CVS Minute Clinic. Before my current job, I was a Registered Nurse at Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital in Greenville for 14 years. My nursing background has molded me into a person who listens and understands people’s concerns.
Why am I running?
My concerns and the concerns of the citizens of Central have fallen on deaf ears for too long! Trying to stay informed of developments or issues of the town is nearly impossible. If you attend a town council meeting, you can voice a concern, but you most likely will not get a reply to that concern. There are many concerning situations and decisions that are currently taking place in the town of Central.
Decisions seem to be made behind closed doors without community involvement. I intend to be an involved council member who is willing to meet with the people of our town and value their opinions.
How do we improve our community?
We start with open forums for people to share ideas about growth or no growth. Growth can be a good thing, and it can be a bad thing. Do we want nice small businesses downtown that we can enjoy without traveling to other towns, or do we want downtown to stay as it has for the last 40 years? Do we want new subdivisions built when our streets can barely handle the current traffic? Many of these decisions are made without a lot of people having input! We need the leadership of our town to be available and put in the time required. We need a mayor and a town council who will value the opinions of the town’s citizens! Communication is the key!
It is time for a change! I would appreciate your write-in vote on November 2nd for Central Town Council, and hope you’ll also vote Andrew Beckner for mayor.
Thank you!
Kyle Merck
